What is it that makes an amazing speech? What makes your presentation memorable? Those are things to definitely think about when speaking in public, one of the best ways to leave a lasting impression is to grab the audience's attention right away.
When giving a speech or presentation it's important to win over the audience right away in those first 30 to 60 seconds. The question is how?
In this podcast, episode Coach Stone breaks down 3 public speaking secrets to grabs the audience's attention in the first 30 seconds of your speech.
If you want to be a more impactful speaker or want to have a memorable presentation and want to start off wowing your audience, listen to this episode.
[8:14] The first secret that you need to know if you really want to win over your audience that you're speaking to in the first 30 seconds is this. You must learn to build a rapport with the audience before you even step on stage.
[10:54] Send a video in advance, like a hype video, letting you know that the organization that's bringing you that you there to speak can send out to all of the attendees.
[12:26] Or maybe you've sent them you know, some information like a free download or something that goes in conjunction with your speech, these kinds of things, build a rapport.
[13:46] The first 30 seconds to 60 seconds that you walk out on that stage or in front of that room is so important. And so you have to come with the right energy, you have to come with the right passion, you have to come with the right conviction, even like up until the how you even come out how you walk out how you, you know, are you walking out in a confident way?
[15:55] When I come on stage. It's that swag. As we say, this swagger. And you have to come with that. You have to know you have to be so confident in the message that you're delivering, that as soon as you step in front of that room, or on that stage, these people are looking at you like, Oh, yeah, this is gonna be a good one.
[17:44] It's almost like sometimes, a quote can be almost just as powerful as an image. And so the right quote, can set the tone for your speech, and really have people lean into what you're saying, and really be excited about it.
[19:06] Raise your hand if stand up, turn to the person next to you and say this, give them give the person on your left to high five. Getting the audience to do something right away is a great way to engage people.
[21:18] And so think about that, do you have a tagline? Do you have something that's going to grab their attention, that speaks to who you are, and it speaks to what you're there to speak about.
[22:21] Hey, thank you so much for being here. Thank you so much for having me here. That's not gonna, that's not really catching people's attention. They've heard that boring statements. So many times, it doesn't mean anything.
[22:43] So you can also you can come up with something that's controversial. That's another way to catch people's attention. Right? I came up one time to, to a group of high school students. And I said, You're all a bunch of liars. You've been lying to yourself.
Here's some of what I talk about in this episode:
[5:29] I had to let go of a lot of things from my past.
[5:44] And in changing my story, it just opened up my life. It opened it up in so many ways. Like, I found the love of my life, I was able to travel to all of these different places, I was able to write books and impact people, with my words in my stories by standing on stages.
[6:30] You have greatness within you, you have a champion story.
[9:11] I remember just sitting there and just feeling like, my dad didn't love me.
[11:01] The first thing that I had to do was acknowledge the past. See, at the time, I never really sat down and acknowledged it I I just kind of actually locked those memories away. All of those times when I was sitting on the step waiting for my dad, I really just buried them, right.
[ 11:54] I think for so many of us, we're still living in the past, and we're, we're still the victim and we're still that little boy, or that little girl that got hurt by a parent or a family member or a teacher or maybe you're a young adult or, or an adult and somebody hurt you.
[17:04] In that healing, maybe you do need counseling, maybe you need to go seek out a professional. In order to get the healing that you need.
[18:21] A lot of us are living in the past, a lot of us are driving backward and looking through the rearview mirror. Your life is moving forward, stop looking in the rearview mirror, we have to start living in the present.
[21:25] Every day you wake up is another day for you to write that story to rewrite your story, your champion story. See, I say champion story.
[27:59] I believe that you're here for a reason. I believe that there's something special about you, you got to find out what it is and live it out loud.
